Inspired by our desire to see the world, travel was on our minds.
Travel is the movement of people or objects (such as airplanes, boats, trains and other conveyances) between relatively distant geographical locations.
Trouble was neither of our ideals fitted with the flashy brochures and tourist style travel that is so popular. After toying with the thought of a road trip we stumbled across the Pan American highway.
The Pan-American Highway is a network of roads measuring about 47,958 kilometres (29,800 mi) in total length. Except for an 87 kilometres (54 mi) rainforest break, called the Darién Gap, the road links the mainland nations of the Americas in a connected highway system.
Now we were on to something, self reliant overland travel was our kind of adventure!
Adventure is defined as an exciting or unusual experience; it may also be a bold, usually risky undertaking, with an uncertain outcome.
We are a young kiwi couple. Will (27) grew up in rural Taranaki, NZ and the outdoors has always been a big part of his family life. While Rochelle (26) grew up in geothermal (not stinky) Rotorua, NZ and has never been far from a boat or a lake.
Kiwi are flightless birds endemic to New Zealand, around the size of a domestic chicken, Kiwi is also national symbol of New Zealand and is used all over the world as the colloquial demonym for New Zealanders.
Together we love exploring, whether it be extreme sports or intrepid travel we are equally happy soaring a paraglider over the west coasts wild beaches or seeking out New Zealand’s best hot pool spot.
An extreme sport is a popular term for certain activities perceived as having a high level of inherent danger. These activities often involve speed, height, a high level of physical exertion, and highly specialized gear or spectacular stunts.
Our Kiwi-Panamericana philosophy is all about the journey, experiences and people we will meet along the way. As much as possible we will try to experience things as locals do... although we do still want to tick a few of the tourist boxes, after all who could say they went to Arizona but didn’t see the Grand Canyon.
Journey, passage or progress from one stage to another usually taking a rather long time.
See you on the road!
Road, usually smooth bitumen or gravel but sometimes uneven, rough, often hazardous and containing potentially large potholes
